Simply put, CBD oil is oil that has been infused carefully with hemp-derived CBD (cannabidiol). CBD is one of many cannabinoids (compounds) in the hemp plant. Unfortunately, CDBA is far more unstable than CBD and degrades in the presence of heat.
All cannabinoids are derived from cannabigerolic acid or CBGA. This base compound forms all of the cannabinoids that are present in the hemp plant. Plant enzymes then break down CBGA into three cannabinoid precursor compounds: tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA), cannabichromene acid (CBCA), cannabidiolic acid (CBDA). CBG can be manipulated based on genetics, growing methods and genetic manipulation.
Heat acts like a molecular catalyst to raw cannabis compounds converting them into their active forms. Once the active compounds are formed, they become CBD and THC. The resulting product is considered a decarboxylated CBD oil.
Decarboxylated CBD is heated and filtered. This process may increase the effectiveness of CBD oil, as decarboxylated CBD oil is more easily absorbed into the body. It may be transparent or slightly golden, or even dark brown, depending on the extraction method, carrier oil, and other ingredients added to the final product.
The main difference between the two types of CBD is that it is decarboxylated CBD, while raw CBD(A) has not. Each carries all of the benefits of CBD. However, raw CBD may have additional benefits due to the presence of CBDA, while decarboxylated CBD oil may be faster acting.
